As Iota Sigma became an established member of the Sigma Chi International Fraternity, her members carried with them the same passion that the founders had exemplified years before. As hazing activities were completely banished in any and all forms, members remember pledgeship as a time of personal and spiritual growth. For many, Sigma Chi filled an emotional gap, teaching her members to explore themselves before exploring the world around them. Meaningful pledge meetings often affect Iota Sigma brothers for life.
Continuing in the tradition of the founders of Iota Sigma, members of Sigma Chi at Valparaiso continued to strive for the betterment of the chapter and each individual members. After years of work, dreams of building a Frank Lloyd Wright house have come closer to a reality. Each graduating senior class gives strong direction to an undergraduate fraternity committed to the exploration of the world and themselves through the lenses of friendship, justice, and learning.
With some history, pledge pranks and stories of friendship became legends. Simple stories of activities such as "Capture The Cross" became Iota Sigma legend. Active alumni returned, fueling the growth of the chapter. Earning seven consecutive Peterson Significant Chapter Awards, and eight in ten years, Iota Sigma achieved the goals set forth by her founders. Brothers watched her progress closely, immediately reacting to any perceived threat to her mission of constant improvement and exploration.
Eleven years after the founding of our chapter, brothers continue to arrive back at the ideals with which the fraternity started. The tradition of continual improvement and betterment continues from one pledge class to the next. Each generation of members raises the bar, whether through pledge pranks and other fun things, or through pursuing long-term goals, such as the construction of a Frank Lloyd Wright house for the chapter. Following the roadmap for exploration outlined in the Vision of Iota Sigma, we look at the past with reverence, the present with passion, and the future with hope.
