Throughout our exploration of life, and our pursuit of our proclaimed ideals, brothers of Sigma Chi Fraternity recognize three major facets of the organization. As pledges, every Sigma Chi learns the RBCs (Ritual, Brotherhood, and Club) of Sigma Chi. The Ritual provides us with our map and gives us direction as to how we should live our lives. Brotherhood provides strength and support through all things: good and bad. Our club gives us an opportunity to celebrate our bonds in social settings. We are brought into the fraternity with the RBCs, and our understanding of them remains with us throughout our entire lives.
Life’s joy comes not from the destination, but from the journey. While pursuing the lofty ideals proclaimed by Sigma Chi, brothers rarely forget to make the most of their time with each other. Time spent together, whether focused on the fraternity, or on other things, allows each member to form a unique bond with his brothers. The fraternity was founded around the high ideals of friendship, justice, and learning. Each day, brothers experience friendship for the first time. In so doing, they return to the place from which they started.
While enjoying their college years, the brothers continued to raise expectations for those that followed. They gladly accepted the reputation bestowed upon them by those who had preceded them, but worried about the future of the chapter. They struggled to maintain a strong sense of direction that would carry the chapter’s explorations in a positive direction. Throughout their efforts, they never forgot to have fun and enjoy themselves.With fond memories of college years, brothers in the following section recount their years as Sigma Chi undergraduates. Many subheadings (see Kent Miller’s submission) sound like titles for children’s stories. These titles appropriately reflect the fondness with which graduates remember their undergraduate association with Sigma Chi. Alumni brothers tell of their pranks, funny stories, and even their first encounters with significant others. Having used Sigma Chi as a tool for the development of friendships and other relationships, brothers of the Iota Sigma chapter return to the purpose of friendship, with which we started. Having formed close friendships, we venture forth together in our explorations.
