The Vision of Iota Sigma
by Timothy Ault and Joseph Lehner

The Iota Sigma Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity was founded by young men dedicated to hard work, high achievement and innovative ideas, and who wished to break away from the perceived tradition of Greek Life at Valparaiso University: a tradition of satisfied mediocrity and disregard for excellence in education.

We have become a Fraternity that is concerned with the community, maintains a strong, honest relationship with University faculty and administration, and is committed to a solid, close-knit brotherhood based on Christian ideals and true friendship.

Confident that these new traditions will attract ambitious and motivated students who share in our beliefs, the charter members have created this document as an encouragement and a reminder of the underlying purposes for which this chapter was created. It is a vision: not to be merely another chapter of any fraternity, but to be one of the strongest and best chapters of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

To continue this vision and perpetuate the Quest for the Ideals of Sigma Chi, the Iota Sigma Chapter should:

  1. Fulfill Peterson Chapter criteria each year
  2. Take extra measures to establish a closer bond with the academic and local community
  3. Maintain a grade point average well above the all-men’s average and rank first among fraternities.
  4. Foster and expand our relationship with the General Fraternity
  5. Carry out rush and pledge programs that respectively search out and instill those traits stated in the Jordan Standard
  6. Build, care for and improve a prestigious Chapter House
  7. Facilitate responsible and ethical behavior in a social setting on behalf of all Greeks through actions which typify the true meaning of Greek Life.
